Tea Party Goes After The Manatees.

tea party vs. the manatees

Since it turned out that Barack Obama was born in the USA, the Tea Party is in need of a new villain. A villain whose very existence is helping turn America into communist Russia. Someone pure evil and anti-American like…the manatees!

Citrus County Florida Tea Party is targeting the gentle manatee and working tirelessly to overturn boating restrictions over manatee habitat in King’s Bay. The Department of Fish and Wildlife wants to limit boat traffic in King’s Bay during the summer to help reduce manatee deaths and encourage population growth. When similar protections were instituted in 1980, manatee population in King’s Bay went from 100 to 550 in thirty years. The increase in manatee’s led to a boom in tourism and King’s Bay now hosts 100,000 manatee watchers a year and potentially earns millions of dollars a year for the local community. The Tea Party says “too bad.”

Speaking on behalf of the Citrus County tea party, Edna Mattos expressed her outrage at the proposed summer boating ban, telling press:

“We cannot elevate nature above humans. That’s against the Bible and the Bill of Rights. If some of these environmental movements had been around in the days of dinosaurs, we’d be living in Jurassic Park right now.”

Oh wow.

I don’t think the Citrus Country Tea Party will have much pull in this issue and not just because they’re crazy and manatees are cute. There are too many tourist dollars to lose if the manatees are threatened and too many people, including the US Government, that are working to provide at least minimal protections.Nevertheless, it is still distressing to hear people talk this way.

If you want to let Ms. Edna Mattos know you want to bring back Jurassic Park just to spite Jesus and the Bill of Rights, you can tweet her @Anti_Socialism.

SERIOUSLY?

Luckily, I live in Florida. I may be able to do something about this.
If this gets big enough, maybe some (nonviolent) direct action?

The savage ignorance these people live in leaves me speechless.
